An effective corrosion inhibitor for freshwater and monovalent brine-based packer fluids. scavenger can treat for acid gas contamination in water-based drilling fluids. However, the chemical reaction between scavenger and hydrogen sulfide
can be reversible, hence scavenger should not be used to treat large influxes of hydrogen sulfide gas. The addition of scavenger has been found to Increase the temperature stability of certain water based drilling fluids. The suitability of scavenger and the optimum treatment concentration required should always be established by pilot tests.
