Textile Chemicals
Processing of textile materials involves the use of various types
of compounds to perform various functions. These compounds are known as textile auxiliaries
or textile chemicals. These chemicals or auxiliaries are used not only to increase the
efficiency of textile processing but also to produce special finishing effects. Thus some
textile auxiliaries are added during certain operations as processing aids, and are subsequently
removed. These type of auxiliaries are used in spinning, weaving, scouring, bleaching, dyeing etc.
and are temporary in nature. Textile auxiliaries of the second type continue to form an
integral part of the material being processed by way of either chemical reaction with the
textile substrate or mechanical deposition, these are of the permanent type and are
usually employed in the finishing processes. Finishing auxiliaries are used to produce
special effects such as wash wear, water repellency, flame retardency etc. Advantages of using textile
auxiliaries are Ø Saving of time
by shortening the process Ø Saving in labor
Ø Reduction in
cost Ø Improvement
in quality Ø Development of special finishing effects
